Laverne Antrobus

Families of children with dyslexia, autism and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) are being sought to feature in a new documentary series for BBC TV.

The three part series, Growing Children, will be presented by child psychologist Laverne Antrobus (Growing Babies, BBC4 and The Biology of Dads, BBC4) and will explore how child development is affected by the three developmental disorders – dyslexia, autism and OCD.

Laverne will examine each of these developmental conditions and attempt to view the world through the eyes of a child affected by them. She will also investigate the possible causes of each one, how they can be treated and what they tell us about how the brain develops during childhood and beyond.

Each programme will follow families with a child about to undergo assessment and families who have a child with a diagnosis who have been learning to deal with the condition.

Participants would need to be filmed in their day-to-day life and discuss how dyslexia affects them. The production company, Pioneer Productions, are hoping to start filming this summer and are keen to speak to families as soon as possible.

Those interested in taking part should contact Claire Justin: claire.justin@pioneertv.com or 02087480888 ext. 265.
